Sexual Dysfunction

Many women will experience problems with sexual function at some point in their lives, and this can occur at any stage of life, whether it’s the first time you’ve had sex, or when you are through the menopause, it can occur in certain situations or be there every time you have sex.

We know how much of an impact this can have on your physical and emotional  well-being, and we have a vast amount of experience in dealing with your concerns in a sensitive, informative and respectful manner.

Causes

  • Physical - you may find sex painful. This can be a sign of Endometriosis
  • Hormonal - a decrease in hormones, particular oestrogen, in the lead up to and after the menopause can result in reduced blood flow to the vagina, as well as a decrease in lubrication. This can lead to the vagina feeling dry, and intercourse being uncomfortable, and sometimes provoke bleeding. Many women will find a generalised reduction in their libido due to these hormonal changes too. Our experienced consultants can help guide you on the best ways to feeling great again!
  • Psychological/social - we can explore any reasons why you may be experiencing sexual dysfunction, and if we are not able to help with certain aspects, we will be happy to refer you to a specialised service in psychosexual medicine.
